Just normal in society….

Nice that you came to my site. Here I - Kirsten - show with pride and passion that I am happy with this beautiful work as a museum and city guide with Gebaren. In addition, I want my provide accessibility expertise to museums and public institutions.

From an early age I always enjoyed visiting various museums, but never went with one feeling satisfied out the door. I saw in people that they knew more than I did. I got alone information from small text plates and some information from my mother, sometimes from literature.

Years later, I read an article somewhere that there was a course for a deaf museum guide and I did immediately registered by "Musea in Gebaren"  from the IN Gebaren Foundation.

I started giving guided tours with Sign Language at these wonderful museums, de Lakenhal and at Hortus Botanicus (both in Leiden), with whom I still work. Hortus Botanicus is indeed very different from the Lakenhal. Biology was my favorite subject and that's why I went Studying Medical Biology, coincidentally also in Leiden. With the arrival of my two children, I became full-time house manager, until they “outgrew” care.

During my studies I met my great love, a beautiful man from Rotterdam, and entered lived soon with him in Rotterdam and still live there today. Through my network the (deaf) community, especially in Rotterdam, gave me more and more opportunities. So have I
develop my expertise in accessibility for the hearing impaired, thanks to fine collaborations with various museums and public institutions.

Because I started to delve more and more into (art) history, I didn't want to be alone developing indoors but also outdoors, that's how I started with (sensory) city walks in Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Delft.
